I am a homeschooling mother now of 3 years. We started homeschooling when we lived in California and which has continued when we moved to Utah. I myself was home-schooled up till 4th grade and also during Jr. High and High School. I did my electives and sports with the public schools and core classes at home.
My anxieties with homeschooling, because of my growing up experience, are very different than someone who hasn’t ever experienced homeschooling. I still get to experience a learning curve in the “hows” of the job. Each of my children, like I am sure each of your children, are VERY unique. They learn at different paces and in different ways. This makes for some slight adjustments every year in my approach, as well as curriculum.
My newly organized Homeschool Closet
I have a 3rd grader and a 1st grader. A lot of the learning experience can be done together and there are only certain things that require individual attention. The most important lesson I want them to learn in these early years is that it is important to always TRY, because mistakes are simply opportunities to learn. This poster hangs on the door of the homeschool closet as a reminder of this principle.
When speaking with my oldest about the first day of school she planned out the day like this:
Library for new books
My curriculum of choice for this year is:
Reading/Writing/Phonics – Abeka Book
Spelling – AVKO
Math – Math U See
All other subjects and activities supplemented with – Konos
So if you see me a little behind on my blog, it is because I want my kids and my family to come first.
If you are a homeschooling family, I would love to hear your preferred curriculum for this year!
