The Most Simple Solution to Increase Your Gratitude

April 24, 2013 | By | Reply More

We are told to be thankful, to be grateful, to think thoughts of gratitude and those actions will change our perspective…blah, blah, blah, blah blah.

I don’t mean to be disrespectful of the power of gratitude. I KNOW it is powerful, but as I was pondering this morning on the idea of receiving all things with a thankful heart, I realized there can be a disconnect here.

I can think of many things I am thankful for, I can speak them and I can write them down, but if I don’t FEEL them… I don’t think gratitude is having the effect it is intended to have.

Which brings me back to the question – how can I receive all things with a thankful heart? How do I take the thoughts of gratitude in my mind and let them expand in my heart?

I think I have found a solution. This works for me, maybe it will work for you.

Do this with me. Think of something or a person or experience you are thankful for.

Take a deep breath in as you hold this thought in your mind. Make sure to close your eyes as you breath in and out, so you can focus on how you will feel as I invite you to take this next step.

Keeping this thought of gratitude in your mind, I want you to simply SMILE.

Curve the corners of your mouth upwards, maybe show such a big smile that your pearly whites blind everyone. As you smile, pay attention to the feeling and connection between your mind and heart.

Did you feel that? I sure did!

I kept trying it will all my other thoughts of gratitude and every time, I felt my heart be more full and connected to what I was thinking of and wanting to be grateful for.

Do you see how powerful this could be for your life? Gratitude is one of the highest vibrations and emotions we can carry. It naturally releases all negativity we hold on to and gently invites more goodness and light into our lives.

So as you go about your day, think grateful thoughts with a smile and notice how your heart will open to the goodness in your life.

I would love to hear your thoughts and experiences on this “experiment” so feel free to comment below.

“I smile from my heart.”

“I choose to receive life with a grateful heart.”

“I mind and heart are connected by the power of my smile.”
