Have you ever been skydiving?
I think it is an experience that the majority of people haven’t had, fear to have, or have it written on their bucket list. There is something about this particular experience though that comes up quite often in private sessions with clients. There is an emotion and feeling that my clients want to plug into that is unique for them and their progress.
I want to break down the Sky Diving experience with you. By asking questions, we’ll be able to identify some key emotions and vibrations that your energy is craving.
Let’s start at the beginning. You are in your pre-jump instruction class. Who is the instructor? What are you learning? Just for kicks, what color is your parachute? Who is going with you on this new experience? What are the emotions that surround you? Fear? Excitement? Shock? No feeling is right or wrong, it is what it is and let it be that way.
It’s time to start getting into the plane now. Who is your pilot? How high are you going to fly? Are you jumping with someone or on your own? Do you feel that your are prepared? Is your pack and parachute secured? Are you hesitant to take that 1 step forward that will put you in such a vulnerable position? Do you trust your pilot? Do you trust your instructor? Do you trust your parachute? Do you trust what you were taught to keep you safe?
You finally make the jump. Removing all fear for your life, look around. What do you see from so high in the sky? What is the view from new heights and a new place? Do you feel a rush of adrenaline? Do you feel the air? Do you feel at peace? Are you full of fear? Why are you feeling either of those emotions? What is running through your mind as you see the world in front of you and are falling fast?
It’s time to pull the lever for the parachute. You were falling fast, but now you are simply floating. How does the speed of each moment compare? What does that mean to you? Which do you like better? Now as you “softly” descend, what do you see, since the world isn’t moving so fast now? What do you notice in your perspective? Do you see the colors around you? What are they? Are you wanting to share this experience with anyone yet? Does the silence and moment to yourself feel good?
It is time to land. What is your landing like? Can you imagine it being perfect in every way? Or do you assume it is going to be hard and uncoordinated? With your feet on the earth again, what is the contrast of falling gracefully and walking?
The experiences of life whether physical or emotional, can often paralyze us from moving forward. Often, life is calling for us to take the first step and initiate the adventure. To choose for ourselves what we want and what kind of experience it might be. All these questions, and there could have been a lot more, are meant to help you think through and process an experience and identify through “meditation” what you are truly wanting for yourself and your life.
This type of guided imagery is like Meditation. What other experiences in your life might you want to break down? How might you process each potential thought and feeling? This kind of meditation can help you identify what is keeping you from moving forward and see what kind of experience you are creating in your life.
Step back and observe the kinds of answers you had to the questions. Are you happy with your answers? Did you wish they would have been a little different? What is in your power to initiate some kind of change for you and how you would like to envision your life to be?
I know that every person will have a unique perspective on this experience and I want to learn from you. So, I ask you… what other lessons and thoughts do you have about the Sky Diving experience that you might want to share? Please leave them in the comments below.
